History of the World: Introduction

The great human city Followstrue sits dangerously close to the westerly cliffs. A sprawling city that was built with defense in mind. The entire city slowly creeps up to a higher vantage point in the center. A top the man-made mountain is perched the Cathedral Hymnsteep. The outer most rings end abruptly at the cliff face. Inside the city proper people of all walks of life mingle about performing their task for the day.

Further south in some small hamlet the Festival of Forgotten Heroes is well underway. The Halfling gypsies have brokered safe passage through the plains and begin entertaining the crowds. Mainly of the races discount the entire Halfing race from contributing anything meaningful to the world. Though on nights like this it is clear that music, folk stories and games are more true to the heart than being able to hold on to your lands through a Giant Invasion.

East of the hamlet in an ancient Forest dwell the Wulfen. Those whom are the keepers of spirits and knowledge thought to be lost. Their seemingly primitive culture hides the wisdom of ages long ago past. A curious breeze cascades through the den and the prophets alert the Chieftain of the signs. Tonight the return begins.

On the sea the last of the free Elven Nation make for the human capital. Sweat and blood stained tunics combined with marks of soot and scraps show the weary signs of battle on their faces. Theirs was a charmed existence but something has changed... the Gods themselves seem to have shunned the once noble race.

In the mountains on the coast north of the human bastion a revolt has begun. The wily Kobolds have undergone a powerful transformation that brings them closer to their Draconian heritage. They have broken free from their oppressors and chased them out of the mines. In doing so have garnered the respect of the Dwarves and Gnomes.

Since the last war the Dwarves have moved further away from magic. The people have mastered the manipulation of metal and several other elements which fueled the fire in their brief civil war. The retraction from magic isn't entirely whole hearted... some of the people still practice their arts though in much subtler ways.

Unlike the Dwarves, the Gnomes seem to be even more interested in that which nearly brought them to ruin. Tinkering and the repair/acquisition of constructs has continued unchecked since the last war. The entire Gnome City of Tinkertown has the ability to rise up and walk away from any threat to the Gnomish people. This has lead to several maps to be inaccurate when trying to determine where the city is. All of the moving parts make knowing how the city is laid out an almost impossible task for those whom are not accustom to moving buildings and sliding streets.
